Ideal for those who want to learn more about the choice of material for topiary and hedging and explore the different techniques and results. Topiary can be fun as well as formal. You will have the chance to try your hand at topiary and take the specimen home. It will also include tea/coffee and Kathy’s delicious home made cake.

To begin
- A private tour of the garden lasting about 60 minutes looking at different hedges and topiary within the garden noting the different colours, texture, seasonal change and possible problems.
- Discuss the use and benefits of hedging materials such as holly, beech (green and purple), yew, hornbeam, box, plum, ivy and berberis.
- Discuss the use and benefits of topiary materials such as holly, beech (green and purple), yew, box, plum.
- Appreciate the positioning and benefits of various trees including rowans, cherries, limes, oaks, weeping beech and birch, white stemmed birch, ginkgo, dawn redwoods, eucalyptus and orchard trees.

Practical
Demonstration showing how to shape both hedging and topiary. Please bring your own secateurs if possible.

Time to try your own hand at topiarising a shrub which you can then take home.
Afternoon tea on the lawn
4pm At last! Enjoy Kathy’s special home made cake with a cup of tea or coffee or maybe a cool drink. This will be offered out in the garden or inside if the weather is inclement (gluten free option will be available)
You will now have time to browse the small shop or explore the garden for yourselves.
