'Informal Tuesdays' June 5th***, 12th, 19th, and 26th June

All these Tuesday afternoons are for individuals and small groups of friends to

come and enjoy the garden at a leisurely pace.

Come at 1pm with a picnic or 1.45pm ready for the tour.

Or just drop in later and wander until tea time!

Entrance will be £4.50 per person.

Free Guided tour for 5 to 35 people from 2-3pm, ...we can mix and match topics just say what you would like to know more about! Containers, Edible flowers, Roses, Clematis and Ornamental grasses

Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic, and please enjoy it in the garden on a seat or in the gazebo; but beware if it is raining I have limited dry space.

Tea and home made cake will be served on the lawn from 3-4pm, price £2.50 per person.

There is no need to book, but if you are bringing a little group of six or more, please email or phone just to let me know so that I can bake extra cakes!

The June garden is wonderfully explosive as the roses turn from bud to bloom and their scent wafts on the air. They festoon the old walls, the trees and the pergola in the cottage garden; they clamber over two of the arches in the wisteria walk and surround the gazebo just behind. They criss cross several beams around the old pool. They climb the house walls, and the barn walls. They clamber through the trees around the lawn and in the orchard and winter walk. We have over forty climbing and rambling roses, each a huge delight.

As the season advances the late flowering clematis start to bloom including Mme Julia Correvon, Rhapsody, Blue Angel and others, all gorgeous as they flirt with the roses.

The Garden is also full of poppies, white hesperis, masses of purple Allium christophii, iris, nigella, astrantia, delphiniums, geraniums and foxgloves all my favourite flowers, rich with nectar and insects. Fragrant white Philadelphus flowers as well. As the month progresses, the wild flower meadow is in full of flower both with the native grasses and native flowers, all loved by a myriad of insects.

The edible flower garden is a treat at this time of year with many roses and lavender blooms being turned into cakes for my groups. Daylilies, sage, thyme and marigold flowers are other treats.

We have added borders of lavender where the box has been removed from the formal garden. It is already in bloom and being picked for my lavender and lemon cakes.

In the containers (a vast array) there are super succulent displays, tender grasses, tender begonias, and bright bedding plants as well as veges and shrubs and lots of herbaceous plants. There are several major pot and basket displays around the garden, including quirky ideas involving planted eggs, telephones and even a tennis racket!
