Colourful red Tulipa 'Apeldoorn' make a dramatic statement in the formal and herbaceous borders. While in the cottage garden and raised borders besides the drive the choice is for softer pinks and rich purples. Tulipa 'Spring Green' is a favourite beneath the wisteria walk. In the pots and baskets exquistie smaller tulips will be in flower too including 'Lady Jane' and 'Honky Tonk'!
Elsewhere a variety of late flowering daffodils offer wonderful displays in the containers and borders. Narcissus 'Pipit' has lemon petals streaked with white, is multiheaded and scented and naturalises extremely well...its simply one of the best. But then I love salmon pink N. 'Romance' and 'Roseworthy' as well. especially in pots when mixed with London Pride which will flower in May hiding all the daffodil leaves.
Early clematis add zing to the scene, along with all the spring herbaceous plants
including scented perennial honesty Lunaria rediva, white dicentra and Solomon Seal. Meanwhile glorious ferns are now emerging along with hostas and carpets of white sweet woodruff.
